A Word In Due Season
Greater!

Greater!
"So David waxed greater and greater:
for the Lord of hosts was with him."
I Chronicles 11:9 KJV
Greater! That is God's desire for us! As we continue in this
9th month of 2009(nine being defined by the Hebrew meaning
as "turning to the next...to the fullness of ten") [Strongs
concordance, 8672] we know that the desire of the Lord
consistent with His greatness is that we move forward toward
the 'greater'! Lest there be any misunderstanding of motive
as if this might result in some prideful
self-aggrandizement, we have only to look at the
accompanying phrases surrounding this pivotal time in
David's life: He was being brought by the Presence of the
Lord of hosts to the greater "...for the sake of his people
Israel"...for the advancement of the kingdom (II Sam. 5:12).
This definition of "greatness" is consistent with David's
life motto: "...that he might fulfill the Lord's purpose in
his generation..."(from Acts 13:36).
Greater! This word appears twice in this verse...and yet is
actually two different words in the original language. In
the unique definition of these two words are found the
insight and explanation of the process and pathway toward
'greatness' as defined and desired by our Lord. The first
word expressed as "greater" means to walk [Strongs, 1980].
Just what you thought: To arrive at the "greater" we simply
must keep moving forward...empowered by His accompanying
Presence in the direction plus expansion of His purpose!
Walking: one foot in front of the other.
Greater! Likely many can identify right now with the second
word translated "greater". It means "to twist" [Strongs,
1419 from 1431]. Some might already be saying: "ouch"! Yes,
it is often in the agonizing, grinding action that the
"greater" is being formed! When we understand the goal plus
the purpose, then we can embrace and endure the 'twisting'
with full confidence that He is with us and the "twisting"
is not without benefit and productivity in our lives! God's
intention is "greater" than the pain and discomfort and
s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g of the twisting! Keep moving forward
allowing the 'twisting' to do its work. The grace of the
Lord is upon you to arrive to the "greater" for His glory!
Pray forward! Ask upward! This is no hour to "shrink back".
We are right now "in the turn" being brought into the
greater thing...escorted by the glorious Presence of the One
who is Greater!
